MX vs ATV: Untamed (Wii)

Posted on February 3rd, 2010 in THQ | No Comments »

Review

I wanted a racer for the Wii and at the time of writing there arent too many good options, need for speed pro street good but boring, speed racer isnt too bad so I decided to give this game a go.

I must say overall its very playable and a game I would endorse. There are only minor issues graphically with slight clipping and images distorting at the starting grid occassionally but the pace of the game is superb and the atv’s and bikes zoom around giving a great sense of speed to this game and I would say the graphics are at least with a PS2 on this game with upto 8 riders racing at any one given time.

The soundtack can be ammended via the options but it primarily rock based with nickleback and USA bands making the line up so if rock isnt your cup of tea turn the music off.

There are many, many modes of play on this game and lots of bikes, atv’s to drive and hurtle around the varying tracks at breakneck speed one course is like the grand canyon and its a bit like motorstorm on the PS3 theres some nice touches graphically particularly when you zoom down an embankment and the mud flies towards the camera. Lots of scenarios to choose including hillclimb’s and ski ramp jumping !!! there are also 1 on 1 rider challenges

So in summary a good game for petrolheads, some concerns have been raised about the controls i didnt have any issues myself the nunchuck controls the direction, a is accelerate and if you flick the remote up in the air prior to jumps you gain further distance and then can press c,z button on nunchunk to perform stunts, the b button on the remote is the clutch and is handy for obtaining a quick start out of the gate.

Component Cable (Wii)

Posted on January 30th, 2010 in Joytech | No Comments »

Review

If you own a Wii and have not yet bought a component cable then you should seriously consider getting one. The standard Wii package only includes a SCART connection and in layman’s terms that means a poor picture quality that is blurry edged and vague. You would not believe the improvement a component cable gives – I’d honestly go as far as to say that it’s a real shame Nintendo don’t give a component cable as standard.

By upgrading the connection with a component cable you get crisp edged graphics that are clear and much much better on the eye. I would say the quality is two or threefold improved. It has to be seen to be believed – similar to changing from a VHS video to a DVD!

You can check your TV is compatible by seeing if the back of the TV has a row of red green and blue sockets (for the picture signal), with 2 audio sockets (red and white) to accompany them.

This is one of the best purchases you can choose for a Wii system. The Joytech quality is very good and the cable is very long (the one I got was 3m) which gives good flexibility on the positioning of the Wii. Just as good as the official cable.

Marvel Super Hero Squad (Wii)

Review

Bought for my Grandson who has slight learning difficulties, he has lots of fun with it. After completing the first mission you are rewarded with a choice of others, not subjected to having to complete them in sequence. The final battle in each mission is the most difficult, but repeats so you can learn from mistakes. Game also allows you to select combat against other players, but if you are a Granddad you never win!! Overall view: game is for the younger gamers, advanced gamers I think would find it easy.

Tamagotchi Party On! (Wii)

Posted on January 2nd, 2010 in Atari | No Comments »

Review

I really enjoyed this game. Despite the bad reviews, it is very fun and great for kids and their friends. Tamagotchi fans like me love it, but lots of people who have no idea about Tamagotchi think it’s great too. All my friends and loads of kids also like it. This is a must-have for Wii gamers and Tama-fans. The multiplayer is a little slow, but if you are patient, these cute graphics get the better of you.

Bringing the Tamagotchi universe to life in full 3D for the very first time, Tamagotchi Party On! is fantastic pick-up-and-play multiplayer party fun. The unique Wii control system lets players swing, shake, point, turn and twist the Wii Remote to play their way through the quirky gameworld, which turns the whole Tamagotchi Planet into a giant 3D board game filled with unique towns and other fun locations to explore. Gameplay is instantly accessible and perfectly suited to Wii, with a host of exciting mini-games that will test the players skill either solo or against up to three friends to see who has what it takes to become Tamagotchi President.

Players can choose to play as their favorite Tamagotchi character and level them up through the game. With Gotchi earned along the way, players can customize and decorate their campaign headquarters however they like, allowing them in turn to give their characters a fresh new look and increase their chances in the Tamagotchi popularity stakes.

Nintendo Official Component Video Cable (Wii)

Posted on December 28th, 2009 in Nintendo | No Comments »

Review

If you have a HD or HD-ready TV with the capacity to take Component inputs, this cable (or a similar version) is one of the best investments you can make for your Wii.

For many newer games it makes a major difference to the image quality. For example, running the new Ashes 2009 game through the standard cable produces a blurred, washed out picture but switching to a Component cable and upping the Wii output creates a sharp image with far more visible detail, effectively improving the quality and enjoyment of the game itself.

The only mystery is why Nintendo don’t supply a Component cable with the Wii itself. OK, some users wouldn’t be able to use it and would have to stick to the standard connections, but if you’ve got the right set up, a Component connection makes the Wii a better console.
